Average price for a Leonberger puppy is £2000-£2500, anybody asking for £3000 is cashing in on the current demand and their commitment to the breed and reasons for breeding in the first place can be questionable. Most responsible breeders only breed couple litters a year maximum and do not need a breeding license, having a breeding license is not a sign of quality, just a sign breeder breeds multiple litters a year. Most puppy farms also hold breeding licenses.

Also, note each puppy costs the same to rear, there should be no difference in the price asked for a female or male puppy.

 

Asking for deposits to join a waiting list before the puppies are born is not a standard practice in the breed and can also be questionable as in Leonbergers we have a large number of bitches miss so mating a bitch is no guarentee on her delivering puppies few months later. Paying a deposit on a puppy that is still just a twinkle on the daddy's eye, can mean a lengthy wait for next litter if the bitch does not get pregnant. Please spend your time in finding a right honest breeder and if possible visit few breeders and their dogs ( Although Covid19 situation is making this little more challenging currently).

 

We have some breeders in UK that are not health testing their dogs and/or are breeding from dogs that have failed health testing. Please make sure you educate yourself on tests required for the breed and only support responsible breeding by ensuring parents have been health tested and only purchasing a registered puppy (This ensured the mum is not too young or too old to breed from and limits number of litters she has).
